Welcome to
Hunted Cow Games
Founded in 2003, Hunted Cow is a leading Scottish game studio known for developing ambitious and long-standing massive multiplayer and strategy titles. Over the years, we've welcomed more than seven million players across our various games on PC, Mac and mobile devices.
Our Story
2019
Warhammer Chaos & Conquest
Fulfilling a lifelong dream for many of our staff, we launch our first licensed project - Warhammer: Chaos and Conquest. In partnership with Games Workshop (of course) and publisher Tilting Point, Chaos & Conquest goes out on mobile platforms, followed swiftly by Steam and Windows, and is nominated for Apple's Game of the Year.
2020
So...That Happened
Despite the challenges posed by lockdown, we needed to rapidly expand our team to meet the increasing demands of our live games. In October of 2020, we posted 11 jobs and wound up taking on 14 new staff across all departments, bring the total number of Cows to nearly 40.
2021
Fallen Sword App Launched!
Remember Fallen Sword? After sixteen years, it's still trucking along with a loyal playerbase who have been asking for a mobile version for a long time. We were finally able to oblige, making our longest-running success story officially cross-platform! We admit, some of us felt the sting of putting "retro" in the new description.
2022
Hunted Cow Glows Up
Ahead of our 20th anniversary, it was well past time for an updated look. We've completely overhauled our brand with a fresh logo, new website, and some long overdue team photos to finally celebrate being able to get our (now much larger) team all in one place.
2003
Hunted Cow is Founded
Andrew and Glenn founded Hunted Cow studios from a tiny office in Elgin, Scotland. Our first official game was CowPlay, a free multiplayer chess website.
2004
Gothador & Sigmastorm
Our second online game - Gothador, a tile-based MMORPG featuring vampires, demons, and angels - goes live. A few short but successful months later, we followed up with Gothador's sci-fi sister, Sigma Storm.
2006
Solarfleet
With a team of six people and a growing player base, we launched a new sci-fi exploration adventure - Solar Fleet - and announced work on our first 3D game, then titled Gothic Ages. In December 2006, we launched our classic fantasy MMORPG, Fallen Sword.
2007
Fallen Sword Takes Off
Fallen Sword surpassed everyone's expectation, surging from a few thousand to 250,000 players in the first three months. By the end of the year, we had more than 1,000,000 signups.
Over the next year, we increase our team size to 12 to handle the increased workload.
2008
Sigmastorm II
Building on the runaway success of Fallen Sword, we launched a sequel to the first Sigmastorm. Sigmastorm II reaches 100,000 signups in under a month.
Work continues on Gothic Ages, which is renamed to Eldevin and sees its first website and teasers released.
2010
New Office
As our team of Cows continues to grow, we needed more space! We invested and completely refurbished a large property in the town centre, giving our team plenty of space to grow!
2012
Tank Battles & Battle Dungeons
Hunted Cow partner up with local developer HexWar Games to co-develop and publish a series of historical strategy games. This is our first step into the mobile game space. At this time, we're also developing our first solo iOS project; RPG dungeon crawler, Battle Dungeon.
2013
Eldevin
Our most ambitious game finally goes live! Accompanied by physical and digital launch rewards, our 3D MMORPG Eldevin goes on to win Best Browser Game in Massively's 2013 Frindie Awards.
We follow up the browser version of Eldevin with a desktop application and Steam launch (after going through the Steam Greenlight process - are we showing our age yet?)
2014
Moray Game Jam
In partnership with ScreenHI and UHI Moray, we hold the first Moray Game Jam to encourage and educate local aspiring game developers. Hosted by the wonderful staff at the Moray College campus, we have over 40 competitors at the inaugural jam. It's such a success that over the next few years we expand to include free talks, workshops, and a public gaming playground open to locals.
2016
Operation: New Earth
We take our biggest step into mobile gaming yet with Operation: New Earth, a sci-fi 4X strategy game for iOS and Android. We then go on to release Steam and Windows PC versions by the end of the year.
2019

About Us
The Team
Hunted Cow started as two friends working in a shoe-boxed sized office. Now, we are 38 people (and growing) and 8 nationalities strong, all of us dedicated to proving that small teams can make big games.
Some of us wear a full stack of different hats, while some of us prefer to hone a speciality. Whichever fits, we support and encourage each other in developing our skills, tackling creative and technical problems, and rising to the challenge of making the best possible games.
While we value structure and mentorship, we don't take hierarchy (or ourselves) too seriously. We aim for an open, constructive, and positive culture of feedback and knowledge-sharing.
Our always-optional team socials include game & movie nights, Warhammer painting, onesie days, life drawing, hiking, and eagerly planning barbeques only to be thwarted by Scottish summer. And of course, the classic Friday night out in the pub. We would have a Dungeons & Dragons squad, but none of our D&D players can get their schedules to align.
ABOUT US
Studio Life
Our large studio is ideally located in the centre of Elgin. We have two spacious kitchens fully equipped with free coffee, tea, snacks and ice-cream - and where home-baked goods have been known to magically appear! We also have a small private gym, a pool room (table, not swimming - sorry, we're not that fancy!) and a cosy games room with Nintendo Switch, an assortment of board games, and a terrifyingly well-equipped Warhammer gaming setup.
Every month we run a Jam Friday, where everyone gets the chance to put their day-to-day work aside and focus on trying something different, whether that's building a new skill, trying out a different discipline, or teaming up with their colleagues for a mini game jam.
About Us
Location
Elgin is the largest town in Moray Speyside. In the heart of whisky country, we are surrounded by beautiful countryside and are just a few miles from several stunning beaches, lochs, and walking trails. The historical town centre is home to several award-winning eateries and pubs (including some of the best coffee in Scotland).
Sitting directly on the A96, and on the main railway line between Inverness and Aberdeen, Elgin has good travel links to the rest of the country and is the perfect base for exploring the rest of Scotland.
We do know that we are quite a bit further north than most people expect! So for employees moving to the area, financial and logistical support are on hand.

Joining us means joining a friendly, relaxed team who are big on creativity and collaboration.
Our vision is to create accessible, engaging games that are easy to pick up but reveal layers of depth and strategy for experienced players. We try to embody these values across all our projects, big or small, while ensuring we leave plenty of space for work-life balance, fun, and personal development.
Don't worry if you don't have a degree in game development. We'll take a strong portfolio, problem-solving skills, and enthusiasm to learn over a formal education any day.
